The association also charges a common area deposit which is equivalent to one month’s rent. This should not be confused with a security deposit that your landlord may charge. The security deposit that your landlord charges can only be deducted from if you damage the apartment. The building common area deposit can only be used if you damage the common areas such as the gym, lobby, or pool.
